The best way to understand what a Feldenkrais® group class feels like is to experience it. I encourage you to come and give it a try!
In a typical class, students lie on mats on the floor while the teacher verbally directs them through a sequence of movements. Some lessons are also done in sitting or standing. The teacher does not demonstrate the movements for the group. This might feel different from other movement classes you may have tried. The goal is to avoid learning by imitation and to reduce the ambition to achieve a certain external model. Instead, the focus is on the exploration of options that are unique to each person. Students are encouraged to move slowly, gently, and to stay always within a comfortable range.
Some of the benefits that students often report are:
Increased flexibility and stability
Greater body awareness and ability to listen to one’s needs
Less injuries and faster recovery when they happen
Relaxation and stress relief
