All classes are currently being taught online via ZOOM. The groups are small, so I can monitor your movements and give feedback.
Recordings of the class are provided - you can review it whenever you wish.
Some of the many benefits that students often report are:
Greater body awareness and ability to listen to one’s needs
Increased flexibility and stability
Reduced tension and pain
Better balance
Less injuries and faster recovery when they happen
Relaxation and stress relief
Improved well-being
In a typical class students lie on mats on the floor while the teacher verbally directs them through a sequence of gentle movements. Those unique sequences were brilliantly developed by Dr. Feldenkrais to facilitate sensory-motor learning. He was a scientist and the lessons were based on his deep understanding of how we learn and move, but at times they can almost seem "magical" - how can a movement that was so hard in the beginning of the lesson feel so much easier at the end?
The teacher does not demonstrate the movements to the group. This might feel weird at first and different from other movement classes you may have tried. The goal is to avoid learning by imitation and to reduce the ambition to achieve a certain "external model". Instead, the focus is on the exploration of new options that are unique to each person. Students are invited to move slowly, gently, and to stay always within a comfortable range.
These classes are a wonderful opportunity to practice - in a very concrete way - being present in the moment, present in your sensations, and being kind to yourself. I encourage you to give it a try!
